I had the pleasure of presenting my final brief to DAAP faculty professors Todd Timney and Dennis Puhalla who gave insightful closing remarks that I will take with my into my research semester this fall. After internalizing their critiques, I have decided to move forward with researching and categorizing my information to create a module-system for users to work through as they develop their photographic literacy. I’m thankful for all the support and guidance given by Muhammad Rahman throughout this semester and I’m even more excited to watch my capstone develop legs and watch as it takes its first steps! 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️

July 26–30, 2021

Time got away from me this week and I almost forgot to check back in to illustrate my weekly capstone progress. This past week has been spent reflecting upon not only this semester, but my final week of being twenty-one. It was nice getting to celebrate my hard work this semester while ringing in a new year of life. With that being said, I’ve been working diligently on my final presentation so this entry will be a tad more on the reflective side as I condense a semester’s worth of material into a 13-page presentation. Below I have included my updated Gantt chart as I put the finishing touches on my final presentation.

July 19–23, 2021

This week’s entry is going to be a bit more on the visual side as I begin to accumulate inspiration and sketches for potential design directions. I focused a lot of this week on exploring identity and how to communicate the idea of technical photography with a fun twist that would appeal to younger audiences. Rounding out the round robin presentations this week, I’m feeling more confident in my capstone’s direction. I was able to use these one-on-one meetings with my peers as primary research for my pitch, receiving direct feedback from my defined audience and understanding their personal experiences with photography. From these meetings, I was able to articulate my problem statement:

Candid a digital toolkit that explains traditional photography principles through the context of mobile applications. Designed for aspiring creatives of the internet-age who want to capture powerful images without needing to invest in formal education or equiptment.


June 28–July 2, 2021

Conducting primary research this week has been very affirming in compiling the scope of my capstone. I sent out a preliminary survey aiming to gauge daily photography habits across different demographics and the relationship between image-making and digital platforms.
