The Little Capstone that Could

“I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.”

Ramping it up for week three was a little overwhelming to say the least. The idea of finally narrowing down our capstone brainstorming into potential full-fledged project ideas was the hardest decision of the semester thus far. With mind-mapping and word association, I felt free to explore my innate passions without the constrains of logistics. The time has come finally decide on a final capstone proposal. While I’m still weary and a fully indecisive person, I am feeling more confident in my concept thanks to the camaraderie of my peers. Especially after this week’s class discussions, I left our class with less weight on my shoulders and a deep appreciation for the community I have been lucky to meet along the way.

Now might not be the time to compare my undergraduate journey to the plight of the children’s book, The Little Engine that Could, but my capstone exploration has definitely served to unlock this memory that I held fondly in my youth. The moral of the story is about perseverance and self exploration: everything that I need to get me through this semester and beyond. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

It truly is reassuring being able to look back at how far I have come—not only as a designer—but as an evolving being. Crazy to think that even with the chaos of work being thrown my way now, this chapter of my life will soon be over before I know it. Such is life; we just have to keep chugging along on this one-way express train.
